Assistant Professor in Special Education

Iona College’s Education Department invites applications for:
Assistant Professor in Special Education (tenure-track; beginning August 2014)
 
We are seeking a faculty member in the Education Department who will work with pre-service and in-Service teachers and provide innovative scholarship in special education.

Responsibilities include:
  • teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in special education and general education
  • maintaining a strong record of scholarship and pursuing external funding
  • collaborating with the department and other departments to advance the special education programs
  • advising  and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
  • supervising students in K-12 classrooms
  • collaborating with local educators and leaders in K-12 partnerships
The ideal candidate will have:
  • an earned doctorate in Special Education or Education (with special education certification) by August 2014
  • a teaching certificate in Special Education
  • a recent history of scholarship in Special Education
  • teaching experience in K-12 classrooms
  • record of teaching Special Education pre-service or in-service courses or supervising teachers and teacher candidates in this field
  • preference will be given to applicants with research, certification, or experiences in Bilingual Education, English Language Learners, Adolescent Special Education, or Early Childhood Certification
