Content Specialist, College Marketing and Communications
The Content Specialist is responsible for creating and overseeing effective and timely print and electronic messages and other content (such as photography and video), primarily for prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors/friends of Iona College, to help increase awareness and meet enrollment, engagement and fundraising goals. The ideal candidate should possess a keen understanding of newsgathering, storytelling, communications strategy, integrated marketing, stewardship, client services and print/video/online production.
Must be an experienced writer/editor with a strong command of English grammar; strong computer skills and ability to research; experience with photography, videography and multimedia for professional communications purposes; strong attention to detail; excellent time-management skills; exercise sound judgment and have the ability to identify important information for inclusion in biographies and/or correspondences from meetings, philanthropic proposals, prospect strategy sessions, etc., as well as information provided in past stewardship activities and/or reports. Must be able to work without close supervision, accept constructive feedback and meet daily deadlines. A solid understanding of an academic environment (including some knowledge of Iona College) is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications or related field. At least 2-3 years experience in a university, media, corporate communications or agency environment; superior written and oral communications, interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to negotiate with, and motivate, others and complete multiple simultaneous projects within a high-volume, deadline-driven environment. Candidate must be self-motivated and creative with the energy and initiative to drive proven results working with freelance writers, graphic designers and photographers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Writing and editing for a wide range of College flagship materials including, but not limited to, the Iona Magazine, website, news releases, brochures, President/MarCom microsites and social channels
Working with key campus partners, particular Enrollment Management and Advancement, on content for print, electronic, and other marketing communications, as well as collaborating with external agencies or freelancers working for the College
Helping develop communications/marketing strategies that meet institutional goals
Developing, producing or repurposing College marketing content – text, photos, video, audio – for a variety of purposes to advance Iona
Partnering with Media Relations, Digital Media and Advancement to achieve full integration of key messages and internal information
Creating communications and cultivation materials for past and current major donors to enhance their relationship with the College and increase the likelihood of contributions
Promoting, working at and reporting on events on and off campus when necessary
Working with student workers and interns
