Job Summary:              
Under the direction of a Campus Safety and Security Supervisor and the Director and Associate Director of the Department of Campus Safety and Security, provide for the public safety of all members of the Iona Community and to protect life and property.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the Safety and Security of all members of the Iona Community and all college and personal property.
  • Responsible for enforcement of all New York State Laws and policies and guidelines of Iona College including the Code of Conduct and Parking and Traffic Regulations.
  • Responsible for the strict adherence to the Department of Campus Safety and Security Rules and Regulations and Manual of Procedure.
  • Responsible for responding to all calls for service and answering all telephone calls in a prompt and courteous manner to assist the complainant and investigate all reported incidents.  Make prompt notification to supervisor or Director for all unusual occurrences. 
  • Responsible for the strict enforcement of our booting and towing policies for vehicles parked in violation at the direction of a supervisor in accordance with our established policy and guidelines.
  • Responsible for conducting random patrol of all assigned posts and properly conducting access control while assigned to a fixed post by maintaining a high level of visibility.  Campus safety officers are required to remain on their post at all times performing their duties until properly relieved. 
  • Responsible to be alert at all times while on duty and to carry out their duties with honesty and integrity and without prejudice.   Campus Safety Officers must maintain the highest professional and personal standards at all times.
  • Responsible to ensure that all Campus Safety and Security vehicles assigned to them are kept in safe and good mechanical condition.  Check vehicles at the beginning of each tour of duty for any damage or required maintenance.  Be able to operate a twelve passenger van as part of the Iona College Shuttle Service.
  • Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of all uniforms and equipment assigned to them.
  • Provide safety information to members of the Iona Community as required.
  • Performs all other job duties and responsibilities as requested by supervisor and/or department head.
  • High School Diploma
  • New York State Security Guard Certification
  • Must satisfactorily complete the 16 Hour In-Service Security Training Course
  • Strong communications and human relation skills
  • Hold a valid NY State Drivers License with a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and tours of assignment.    These assignments may consist of foot patrol, bicycle patrol, fixed traffic post, mobile post, residence hall or communications room duties and operate a twelve passenger van. 
  • Mobility and durability are important physical aspects.
  • A candidate must be able to, without restrictions, walk stairwells and actively access and egress a motor vehicle. 
  • A candidate must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time as required.
