Director of Creative Services


The Director of Creative Services reports to the Senior Director, College Marketing & Communications and oversees a Manager of Digital Media. He/she is responsible for the print and electronic creative needs of the College. The Director establishes and monitors design standards and branding; thinks strategically to manage a media mix; provides recommendations and guidance to College clients to achieve their goals/objectives; and creates a dynamic and collaborative work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead creative direction for College print and web design.
  • Maintain design and execution of College brand and visual identity program.
  • Coordinate a variety of design disciplines within print, Web 3.0 and social platforms.
  • Design or art direct the College magazine and other flagship print and electronic materials i.e. strategic plan, website homepage, social channels, President and MarCom microsites, etc.
  • Oversee production schedules, project management and soft/hard launch of product.
  • Recommend sound structure for digital integration within MarCom in support of Iona.
  • Collaborate with Interactive Technology and external vendors on Web/social development initiatives that support internal/external integration of brand and image.
  • Develop turnkey solutions for internal distribution/marketing needs.
  • Develop internal email communications strategy for InsideIona including timing and content.
  • Review social and engagement metrics and provide recommendations based on report.
  • Coordinating internal production needs between Graphics and Information Technology to ensure better integration of marketing and design.
  • Evaluate school/department project objectives, creative briefs and quality of external work based on College branding and style guidelines.
  • Remain current in new techniques and technologies and bring best practices to Iona projects.
  • Schedule and art direct photographers for campus photo shoots, key events and photo archive.
  • Review and contract freelance designers and external vendors that supplement in-house resources.
  • Oversee external printers and manage timelines, budget and ensure overall quality for College flagship projects.
  • Assign projects and establish priorities based on institutional need.
  • Encourage the practice of environmentally sound production methods.
  • The position requires: a bachelors (Masters a plus) in Graphic Design or a related field with 5-8 years’ experience in a university, corporate or agency environment.
  • Proven track record managing staff and corporate branding; superior interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to negotiate with, and motivate, others; complete multiple simultaneous projects within a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with Photoshop (expert level)
  • Dreamweaver; HTML and CSS.
  • Basic understanding of SEO and email marketing
  • Grasp of Javascript and Flash as it relates to web design.
  • Self-motivated with the energy and initiative to drive proven results.
  • Outstanding creative print and Web design skills with an eye toward online marketing results.
