New Rochelle, NY (February 12, 2014) For the sixth straight year, an Iona College team participated in the New York Regional Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Research Challenge®, hosted by the New York Society of Security Analysts in New York City on February 7, 2014.
The Challenge is a global competition which tests the analytic, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills of university students. Paul Afanasewicz (MSIF ’14), Vivian Hu (MBA ’14), Chris Lipuma (BBA’14) and Martha Wislocki (BBA’14) represented Iona in the 20-school competition which kicked-off in October 2013.
Iona's CFA Research Challenge team puts the finishing touches on its presentation at NYSSA headquarters. Left to right: Martha Wislocki '14, Vivian Hu (MBA'14), Paul Afanasewicz (MSIF'14), Chris Lipuma '14.
Each team presented its research and buy/sell/hold recommendation on Colgate-Palmolive, the New York based global consumer products company known for brands like Irish Spring soap, Palmolive dish liquid, and of course, Colgate toothpaste.
Matthew Carey, the team’s faculty advisor said, “I am very proud to have worked with such a hardworking and committed group of Iona students. The selection process they went through began in mid-August and they spent countless hours distilling the business of one of the largest companies in the world into a 10-page research report. The CFA Challenge provides a tremendous opportunity for students to take the skills they learn in the classroom and apply them in a setting where industry experts can evaluate and critique their performance.”
The local winner will advance to the Americas Regional competition in Denver, Colorado from March 18–19, 2014. Three regional winners (Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific) will then meet at the Global Final in Bangkok Thailand on April 25, 2014.
