Freshman Transition Program

During the early part of the summer, all entering CAP freshmen participate in a two-week transition program. The aim is to provide students with a solid foundation from which the college experience can begin with confidence. During this time a number of skills are addressed.

An experienced staff instructs and guides students in intensive writing instruction, study skills, organizational and time management skills. Students are oriented to the college and its various offices and services. Individual learning styles are explored, and opportunities are provided to practice self-advocacy. In addition, several workshops are offered in areas that meet the students' specific needs.

The CAP director and assistant director personally work with each student to create an individual schedule that blends interests and abilities with core course requirements. Consideration is given to matching the student's learning strengths with a professor's teaching style. Both students and staff agree that the summer transition program facilitates a successful transition from high school to college.
