How to Apply

Incoming Students

The honors program welcomes applications from qualified students. If you are currently in high school or a transfer student from another college or university and you are seeking admission to both Iona College and the Honors Program, you will find the admissions requirements and application on the Iona College Admissions web site.

Current Students

If you are currently a student at Iona College and wish to become  a member of the Honors Program, please submit the following:

  • Completed and signed application cover sheet (staple the Signed Application Cover Sheet to the front of your application material)
  • Official Iona College transcript
  • ACT or SAT scores
  • An Application Cover Letter addressed to the Honors Program Director. The letter must be approximately 300-500 words. It must explain what you hope to bring to the Honors Programs and why you wish to join it.
  • Write a 300 to 500 word essay reflecting on the significance of intellectual curiosity, its connections to civic and ethical responsibilities, and its relevance to your participation in the Honors program. The Iona College Honors Program mission statement is to “develop intellectual curiosity... and awareness of ethical and civil responsibilities.” Foucault suggests that... “it (curiosity) evokes ‘concern;’ it evokes the care one takes for what exists and could exist; a readiness to find strange and singular what surrounds us... a fervor to grasp what is happening and what passes...” (Foucault, 1980). Your essay should reflect on these issues.
  • Two letters of recommendation on letterhead ( one must be from an Iona College faculty member). These letters must be sealed and sent directly from the recommender to the ICHP Director via snail mail (see address below), inter-office mail, or email. Students may submit these letters with their applications only if they are in a sealed and signed envelope.

Application Criteria:

  • Currently a student in excellent standing at Iona College, completed minimum 15 credits at the time of application
  • Highest record of academic achievement and success
  • Dedication to the mission of the ICHP and the College
  • Ability to contribute positively to the ICHP and Iona College

Selection Process

  • The deadline for submission of application is the 2nd Monday in August or the 2nd Monday in January
  • All elements of the application must be included at the time of submission (see list of application materials above).
