Student Accomplishments and Partnerships with Outside Agencies

  • Internships at over 100 local, state, federal agencies as well as law offices, DHS, Westchester DA Office, Manhattan DA offices, Pretrial Services, Victims Advocacy and
  • Over 150 alumni at NYPD
  • Dozens in Federal Agencies including ATF, DEA, Capitol Police, Parks Police, Probation, Homeland Security
  • Summer 2012- Iona Student received the only paid Federal Summer Internship in Southern District
  • Graduate students hired for NY/NJ HIDTA Financial Crimes Analyst and Terrorism Analysis
  • BA/MS Graduate student hired by NYPD Narcotics Division as Crime Analyst
  • August 2014, BA/MS graduates from Port Authority NY/NJ, Baltimore Police and NJ State Troopers
  • June 2014- 10 additional graduates will graduate from NYPD
  • December 2012- two BA graduates graduated from NYPD
  • June 2013- 5 additional graduates will graduate from NYPD
  • Current graduates of BA are now attending Pace Law, Brooklyn Law, Brooklyn College Mental Health, NYU Paralegal Studies, John Jay College/CUNY M.P.A., etc.
  • Formal partnership with New York State Police Juvenile Officers Association beginning 2014
  • Upcoming Security Threat Assessment Conference in 2015 for Community leader, Educational Institutions, Law Enforcement, First Responders, and Students

  • The American Criminal Justice Association – Lambda Alpha Epsilon (Chi Rho Chapter)
  • Iona College Criminal Justice Mentor Dinner - 2013 – 300 attendees [85 mentors from all areas of criminal justice represented]
  • The Fr. DeSanto Alumni Criminal Justice Chapter Event [every 1-2 years] – gathering of alumni last held in Spring 2012
  • Students are currently conducting research with Faculty on International Terrorism, Domestic Violence, and Westchester County Probation Recidivism Data
  • Over 10 students participated in Iona College’s Scholars Day 2014 with 6 attending and presenting at the National Undergraduate Research Conference April 2014 in Lexington, Kentucky
  • Several students currently working with faculty on current research projects including: Probation & Recidivism, Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking and Terrorism, Sexual Assault on College Campuses and Criminal Justice Pedagogy.

Klein, Josh R., Cathryn Lavery, and David T. Mulcahy. “Probations and Probationers at a Large Twenty-First Suburban Probation Agency.” Paper presented at the 2014 Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences annual meeting, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Cathryn Lavery’s article “ The Guards of Our Ivory Towers: Creating a Successful Sexual Assault Training Module for Faculty on College Campuses” was published in the Journal  Sexual Assaults Reports published by the Civic Research Institute in March 2014.

Cathryn Lavery & David T. Mulcahy. Team-Teaching in the Discipline of Criminal Justice: How Merging the Combination of the Academic and Practitioner Works. Presented at the 2014 Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA.
