Marlene Zakierski, Ph.D. presently teaches both undergraduate and graduate students in Education Foundations, Administration, Literacy and Special Education. She received her doctorate from Fordham University in Language Literacy and Learning. In addition she has two master degrees: Educational Administration and Supervision and Special Education. She is a proud graduate of Iona College. She is Co-Author/Planner of the Childhood/ Adolescent Special Education Programs and the Director of the Special Education Graduate Program. She has spent many years in the public education sector as an Assistant Superintendent, a Principal, an Assistant Principal, chairperson, instructional coach and teacher. As part of her on-going work in school reform, she conducts professional development in neighboring schools. Her present work focuses upon the improvement of teaching/learning of English Language Arts in primary and adolescent classrooms. Primarily addressing curriculum, instruction, and assessment by modeling lessons, observing and coaching teachers in the application of innovative and effective literacy and inclusion strategies.

Research Interests

Her research interests focus on case study documentaries, special education teachers' dispositions, positive social skills, Response to Intervention, school reform, and childhood and adolescent literacy. She has presented both nationally and internationally.
