Elda Buonanno Foley is an associate professor of Italian language and culture at Iona College.
  • Dr. Buonanno Foley has a PhD in Comparative Literature from the Graduate Center, CUNY, and a BA in Modern Languages and Literatures. She is currently finishing her online Certificate in Instructional Technology at the University of Maryland.
  •  She has published extensively on teaching methodology, on literature and film and organized several workshops on language performance and effective teaching activities.
  • In her academic years as associate professor, Dr. Buonanno Foley has taught and created several classes of Italian language and cultural studies, from elementary Italian to advanced conversation, Modern Italian Narrative and cultural studies, Dante, Early and Modern Italian Theatre, Poetry and Cinema. She has also designed new seminars in Italian Autobiography, Women writers and Italian Identity and Made in Italy: A survey in Art, Fashion and Design, Italian Pedagogy and a Seminar on Italian Contemporary Cinema.
  • Dr. Buonanno Foley has designed and planned seminars in Iona College on “Teaching through technology” and she organized two Professional Development Workshops in Teaching Italian Language and Culture for Language Instructors which had more than 80 participants. Dr. Buonanno Foley has obtained external sponsors in assisting the financing of these pioneering workshops for Iona.
  • Dr. Buonanno Foley is the 2012  recipient of the Faculty Instructional Technology Award for her innovative project entitled Italian Style: The One Stop Website for a New Learning and Teaching Experience
