IONA

Get skills, change lives, move the world one relationship at a time.

Iona’s Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) Master’s program prepares you to have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of others. During the program you will gain the practical skills and knowledge necessary to deepen your impact in the fields of therapy, behavioral sciences, education and social services.

The Difference that Makes a Difference

Our program is one of only three Marriage and Family Therapy programs in New York State that are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family therapy Education. The small size of our program enables our dedicated faculty to provide individualized instruction that is far more akin to mentoring than teaching.

Graduates of our program are eligible for New York State licensure upon completion of additional post-masters NYS requirements. One hundred percent of our graduates who have taken the National MFT exam have passed successfully.

Our mission in action: Iona Marriage and Family Therapy Center
Founded to meet the needs of individuals and families facing life’s challenges and stresses, Iona contributes its services to the surrounding communities via its Marriage and Family Therapy Center:
  • Our non-profit Marriage and Family Therapy Center has been in operation for over 40 years and is staffed by Marriage and Family Therapy interns who are closely supervised by experienced Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists.
  • Services are provided free of charge to Iona College students, faculty, staff and their families. Services are provided across a broad spectrum of needs, from individual therapy and personal growth to depression, bereavement and couples/family therapy

Careers that make a difference in the lives of others

To date, 35 of our graduates have been licensed as Marriage and Family Therapists. Graduates have also gone on to positions such as:

  • Assistant Clinical Director
  • Adjunct Faculty
  • Counselor
  • Case Manager
  • Postgraduate School
