Meryl Nadel joined the Iona College Social Work Department in 1996. She has earned degrees from Skidmore College (BA), the University of Michigan (MSW), and Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work (DSW). Prior to coming to Iona, she taught at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service and practiced in the areas of substance abuse, mental health, HIV foster care, and group work.
Since joining the Iona College community, Dr. Nadel has taught a number of required courses across the social work curriculum. She has developed service-learning courses related to sustainability, HIV, and youth services. In addition, Dr. Nadel has developed and led both the Center for Social Research and the Iona College Institutional Review Board and has served on a number of college committees.
Dr. Nadel’s research interests include social welfare history, environmental sustainability and social work, innovative teaching approaches, and social work and summer camp. In addition to articles and conference presentations, she co-edited a book, Social Work and Service Learning: Partnerships for Social Justice. In 2011, Dr. Nadel was recognized by Iona College with the Hugh J. McCabe Memorial Award for Social Justice.
