Student Accomplishments

  • Anna Wyluda '18, Kristin Morehead '18, and Gabe Cabrales '16 will be presenting their study “Accounting for Frequency, Age of Acquisition & Neighborhood Density When Choosing Target Words for Treatment” at The 2016 Annual ASHA Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.
  • Lauren Keller '16, Aleksandra Popkowska '16, and Alexa Rossi '16 presented at The National Conference of Undergraduate Research (NCUR).
  • Jennifer DeRosa '16, Lauren Keller '16, Leigh Musselman '16, and Kerryann Scirocco '16 presented at the Eastern Communication Association Conference in Baltimore, Md.
  • Lauren Zanfardino presented an original piece of research about the ASHA Code of Ethics at the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association in Saratoga, N.Y.
  • Meghan Murphy, Lauren Zanfardino, Elizabeth O'Halloran, Caitlyn Monigan, Sara Pettit, Cassondra Richards, Jaclyn Shurman presented at the national ASHA convention in November of 2012.
  • Kerri Leigh Heesemann, Yanissa Garcia, Jaime Marroquin, and Alexa Magalhaes all presented at the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association in Saratoga, N.Y.

Faculty Accomplishments

  • Dorothy Leone and Jennifer Gerometta have been awarded tenure.
  • Jennifer Gerometta was presented with the Richard B. Power Award
  • Michelle Veyvoda has been granted approval to offer a course in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Congratulations to Dr. Veyvoda, whose poster presentation was accepted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention in Philadelphia, Pa. Dr. Veyvoda will present her poster, "A service-based approach to audiology instruction for undergraduate students," along with Dr. Tommy Van Cleave of Iona College, on November 19, 2016.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Min Jung Kim as she welcomes her newborn son into the world! Luke Zion Na was born Friday, August 12, 2016, is healthy and doing great.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Dorothy Leone as she welcomes her newborn son into the world! John William Leone was born Wednesday, August 31, 2016, is healthy and doing great.
  • The faculty of the Speech Communication Studies Department hosted Dr. Allan Hamilton, author of Scalpel & the Soul, Zen Mind, Zen Horse: The Science and Spirituality of Working with Horses, and Lead with Your Heart: Lessons from a Life with Horses, for an on campus lecture on Empathy and Patient Centered Care on September 9, 2016.
  • The Debate Team at Iona College will be returning this year supported by the Speech Communication Studies Department faculty and the Iona College Honors Program. They also will be joining the national American Forensics Association.
  • A memorial service for Professor Marie-Michelle Monéreau- Merry will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016, at 3 p.m. at The Arrigoni Center sponsored by the Speech Communication Studies Department and the Office of Mission and Ministry. A clinic room in the Speech Language & Hearing Clinic has been dedicated in her memory.
  • Dorothy Leone and Suzanne Thompson earned their doctoral degrees.
  • Dorothy Leone was appointed as the director of the Communication Sciences and Disorders proposed graduate program.
  • Diane Ferrero-Paluzzi was invited to host a national webinar for the National Wellness Institute on Using Narrative and Storytelling to Foster Wellness.
  • Diane Ferrero-Paluzzi is finishing her book, Clinical Communication, contracted by Jones and Bartlett Publishing.
  • Diane Ferrero-Paluzzi was selected for the third year as a peer reviewer for Patient Education and Counseling journal and is a peer reviewer for the International Conference on Communication in Healthcare.
