IONA

Gael Community Ambassador Program 2013-2014

What is a Gael Community Ambassador?

Off-Campus Housing works to educate students moving into the community about being good neighbors, good citizens, and living Iona’s mission off-campus. It also works to build positive relationships with neighbors and city leaders to improve the quality of life off-campus for neighbors and students. The Gael Community Ambassador(s) will contribute to the of Off-Campus Housing mission by:
  • Modeling appropriate off-campus student behavior,
  • Providing educational programs and resources to on and off-campus students (i.e. handouts, presentations, information tables, and residence hall outreach),
  • Serving as a liaison for off-campus students to Iona’s administration and the City of New Rochelle,
  • Maintaining a strong connection between Iona College and its off-campus students as well as between off-campus students and the Greater New Rochelle community,
  • Helping to build community among off-campus students,
  • Helping to increase civic engagement, civic responsibility, and good citizenship among off-campus students,
  • Helping to increase and improve communication with Iona’s neighbors,
  • Increasing collaboration with the greater New Rochelle community,
  • Improving the overall quality of life for members of the greater New Rochelle community, and
  • Encouraging local business patronage.

Message from the Gael Community Ambassadors

Hey! It’s Trista and Holly, your Gael Community Ambassadors, here!
As GCAs, we would like to introduce ourselves and our office to all students living in off-campus housing. You may be wondering what a GCA does. For starters, we both live off-campus just like you. Therefore, we understand what it’s like to live in the greater New Rochelle community.

We would like to emphasize that the Office of Off-Campus Housing is a friendly resource for students and neighbors. Our goal is to help students live happily and safely in the community, getting the most of their off-campus experience, while respecting our New Rochelle neighbors.
Please contact us with any questions or concerns! Stop by the office or send us an email.

We look forward to hearing from you,
Your friendly neighborhood GCAs
