Founded in 1998, the Gael Dancers (Dance Team) functions as an entertainment group that prepares dance routines for performances at Iona’s sporting and social events. The Gael Dancers consists of 20 talented dancers with various dance backgrounds. The team performs at all homes games for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as other events on campus including Maroon Madness, Homecoming, and Home for the Holidays. At the end of the season in March, Dance Team members travel with the basketball teams to the MAAC Tournament. The team practices three times a week, perfecting dance routines with their coach and captains. The dance routines can be described as jazz funk, a style of jazz technique, and hip-hop combined. The members also dedicate time by participating in service projects that support Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention.
