Tara Knights Society
The Tara Knights Society
is the College's oldest service organization. Deeply rooted in the history of the College, the group was founded in 1940 on the ideals of the Congregation of Christian Brothers. Since then, they have dedicated themselves to service, mission, and to impact both our world and local community. The Tara Knights Society won most improved organization at the 2013 Gael Awards. Entry into the Tara Knights Society is nomination-based.
Hands Around Iona
is the Tara Knight's annual fund-raiser held to aid the Christian Brothers and their work with communities in Africa. One day a year, hundreds gather on the field and hold hands in a circle to raise money for a cause. Over the past few years with the help of many students, faculty and administration, the Knights have impacted areas in El Doret, Sierra Leone and Kenya by assisting in school developments and water tower projects.
Operation Christmas Child is a global Christmas gift exchange' project operated by Samaritan's Purse. Each November it opens thousands of locations, typically at churches or schools, to collect shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, personal items, and other gifts. These boxes are then distributed as Christmas gifts to children. The Tara Knights Society throw a Christmas party every year in support of this.
