Tara Knights Society

The Tara Knights Society is Iona College's oldest service organization. Deeply rooted in the history of the College, the group was founded in 1940 on the ideals of the Congregation of Christian Brothers. Since then, they have dedicated themselves to service, mission, and to impact both our world and local community. The Tara Knights Society won most improved organization at the 2013 Gael Awards. Entry into the Tara Knights Society is nomination-based.

Meetings are held on Sunday evenings and are closed.

Annual Programs

Hands Around Iona is the Tara Knight's annual fundraiser held to aid the Christian Brothers and their work with communities across the globe. One day a year, hundreds gather on the field and hold hands in solidarity to raise money for a cause. Over the past few years with the help of many students, faculty and administration, the Knights have impacted areas in El Doret, Sierra Leone and Kenya by assisting in school developments and water tower projects. The 2016 Hands Around Iona donations went to the National Alliance on Mental Illness and will provide individuals and families with resources and support.
Battle For A Cause is an annual event in which teams of students represent various philanthropies in a “battle of the bands” style competition. After the audience votes on their favorite performances, all of the money that is raised during the event is given to the philanthropy of the winning team. This program has aided in serving those in both our local and global communities.
