IONA

Honors Convocation 2015

Each year, Iona celebrates the academic achievements of our most outstanding students during the Honors Convocation.  This year, the Honors Convocation will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Hynes Athletics Center.  All graduating seniors who are members of honor societies will be recognized during the ceremony.  Honor Society members who graduate early in 2015, prior to May, will also be invited to attend.  All graduating seniors who have been selected by their major departments for academic awards will receive their medals during the ceremony. Honorees may invite family members and loved ones to the Convocation.

It is expected that all honorees will attend the ceremony to be recognized and/or receive their medals.  If you will be unable to attend, please contact Ms. Imelda Reece, Convocation Coordinator at (914) 633-2603.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

  • Who should attend the Honors Convocation?

  • What about graduate students who are members of academic honor societies or receiving academic medals from their departments? Do they attend the Honors Convocation?

No, graduate students do not attend the Honors Convocation.  Graduate students who are members of honor societies and graduate students who are academic medal recipients will receive recognition and medals during the Commencement ceremony for graduate students, which will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 3:30 p.m.
  • What is the appropriate attire for the Honors Convocation?

Graduating seniors who participate in the Convocation must wear caps and gowns.  These items must be ordered online from Jostens by Sunday, March 8th, 2015, and should be picked up during the Commencement Fair on Thursday, April 16th, 2015. There will be an Honors Convocation table during the Commencement Fair. Please stop by if you have any additional questions.
  • Why do some students wear cords during the Honors Convocation?

  • I am a member of an honor society who is graduating in May 2015 but I did not receive any information about the Honors Convocation. What should I do?

The Convocation Coordinator emails information to members of honor societies based upon the information she receives from Honor society moderators and from the Registrar.  If you have not applied for graduation, your name will not appear on the Registrar’s list, so you will not receive information regarding Convocation.  Please contact your honor society moderator and the Registrar to make sure you have completed all of the necessary steps.  If you have questions about the Convocation, please contact Ms.  Imelda Reece, Convocation Coordinator, (914) 633 2603, or visit the Honors Convocation table during the Commencement Fair.
