Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do parents stay with the students in the residence halls?

    No, the residence halls are strictly for students. Please go here for local off campus accommodations, if needed.
  • If I have a food allergy, will I need to bring food, or can I get what I need at orientation?

    Please let us know your needs when you arrive at orientation; you will not need to bring food with you.
  • Is it mandatory for students to participate in all orientation sessions?

    Yes, as all sessions are informative and necessary to attend.
  • What should I bring with me?

    • extra long twin sheets (if you have them)
    • comforter or blanket
    • a pillow
    • toiletries
    • change of clothes
    • laptop (if you are bringing one to campus) to be configured to the wireless network
  • What time do the parent sessions end on day one?

    Parent sessions on day one ends approximately at 3:30 pm (Breakfast and lunch are served).
  • What time do I pick up my child on day two?

    Day two is for students only and pick up time is at 2:30 pm.
  • Is it mandatory for commuters to stay overnight at the summer orientation?

    Yes, as part of experiencing the Iona College Community the overnight orientations are for all incoming freshmen students including commuter students.
  • What time does the orientation start?

    Move in time at Loftus Hall is between 8:00 am 9:00 am; check in is in Mulcahy gym and will begin promptly at 9:30 am. (Continental breakfast is available).
  • What time does the orientation end on day two?

    The orientation should end at approximately 2:30 pm.
  • Can my child request a specific roommate?

    No. We would like the student to meet new people and begin to build community.
  • Can I receive my orientation date of choice?

    We do try to accommodate everyone with their choice of dates. Please note the orientation request is on a first come, first serve basis. Please go online and register as soon as possible to ensure your first choice.
  • Is it mandatory that parents attend orientation?

    No, but it is highly recommended. The parent session on day one ends at approximately 3:30 pm.
  • When does my son/daughter make their schedule?

    Freshmen schedules are made by the registrar and advisors; if any changes are needed this will be done during the first day of orientation.
  • What is the CAP program?

    CAP stands for the "College Assistance Program"; students in this program are accepted at the beginning of their admissions process.
  • Do I return the Housing Contract if my son/daughter is a commuter?

    Yes, the housing contract is used for the overnight orientation only.
  • Where do I get my ID and parking pass?

    You will take your ID picture during orientation.  Both your ID picture and parking pass are gotten from Campus Safety & Security located on the second floor of the LaPenta Student Union.
  • Where should I park when I come to campus?

    After you drop off your belongings to Loftus Hall, please park in the parking garage on the opposite side of campus. Students will be around to direct you.
  • Will someone from Student Financial Services be at orientation to answer questions/concerns?

    Yes, they will have a session during orientation as well as be available afterward to answer individual questions/concerns.
