Volunteer Programs

Purpose

The Christian Brothers Volunteer Program offers young single, adult Catholic men and women the opportunity to:

  • grow spiritually
  • experience community living
  • share in the ministry of the brothers
  • foster the work of evangelization especially to the marginalized

Description

Volunteer commit themselves for one year, renewable for a second year, to live in community with the Brothers, during which time the volunteers become partners with the Brothers in mission and ministry especially to the marginalized.

Service

Volunteers, using their personal gifts and academic preparation, are involved in a variety of services including:

  • classroom instruction
  • tutoring and small group instruction
  • campus ministry programs
  • classroom assistance to teachers
  • extracurricular activities, latchkey programs
  • retreat programs
  • neighborhood soup kitchens
  • summer camps
  • work with migrant laborers

Locations

Domestic opportunities are available in Brownsville, Texas; Bonita Springs, Florida and New York City.
International opportunities are available in Ontario, Canada.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the program:

  • be single
  • have a Bachelor’s Degree or comparable work experience
  • be in good physical and mental health
  • desire to work with young people, especially those at risk
  • be willing to live in community

Financial Issues

The Christian Brothers Volunteer Program provides:

  • health insurance
  • transportation at the beginning and end of the service
  • room and board
  • a monthly stipend
  • deferment of student loans if qualified
