Iona is located just 20 minutes north of Manhattan, and its proximity to New York City provides students with exceptional cultural, educational, internship and career opportunities. Recruiters from top Fortune 500 companies participate in Iona’s Internship/Career Expo every year, and students have held internships at some of the best-known corporations in New York City and the surrounding area.
Over the past few years, the College has undertaken an ambitious $83 million building campaign which has transformed the campus. The new state-of-the-art Hynes Athletics Center provides students with access to cardio machines and free weights, an aerobic/dance studio and classes, a pool, a rowing tank and more. New residence halls, a new arts center and a new student union offer students impressive facilities for classes and extracurricular activities. With its TV and radio station, extensive room for clubs, comfortable lounges, bookstore, a food court and café, the Robert V. LaPenta Student Union is the living room of the campus. In fall 2007, groundbreaking took place for a library expansion and renovation that will provide a multimedia seminar room and group study facilities equipped for students to collaborate on podcasts and digital projects—all while enjoying a Starbucks from the library’s café (one of two outlets on campus). The library has already installed 52 dual-boot iMacs, which can run both Microsoft Windows and the latest Mac OS, making Iona one of a handful of colleges to invest in the cutting-edge technology.
