Welcome to our website. Here you will find material on Iona's Mission, its traditions, the history of the College and the Christian Brothers, the Catholic intellectual tradition, Catholic social teaching, and campus programs.
We extend a particularly warm welcome to those who may be encountering the Catholic tradition for the first time. For two thousand years, the Catholic faith has been shaped and transformed by diverse global cultures; Catholic institutions have a long history of working with gifted collaborators from different faiths or no faith. Iona College honors and prizes the invaluable contributions of all its employees. We hope the sections on Catholic traditions, the Christian Brothers, and the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brothers Education will help bring the College mission into even sharper focus for you.
Iona College is a community of learning whose human scale makes intellectual partnerships and creative collaboration across disciplines possible. The College's Mission is frankly and unapologetically student-centered: every faculty and staff member is expected to engage in the formation of our students, helping to transform them into independent thinkers and ethical decision-makers, helping them to integrate the life of the intellect with the spiritual, emotional, civic, and physical parts of their lives.
The Office of Mission Integration supports the faculty and staff in that effort. Together, the Director and Coordinator engage in teaching, orientation of new employees, and collaborative programming, including Friends of Edmund, the Catholic Intellectual Tradition Luncheon Symposium, Heritage Week, and a variety of liturgical and social justice initiatives.
