President's Message

Message from the President

Dr. Joseph Nyre, PhD

Welcome to Iona College, a place we call home.

The Christian Brothers founded Iona on the principle that higher education is the portal to a better life and a better world. It still is, especially at Iona, where academic rigor, the spirit of community and respect for all faiths propel students to lives of meaning and service to others.

This is the Iona experience.

We are shaped most powerfully by our people:

  • Students, who embrace Iona's promise to challenge the limits of their minds and nurture their spirits, and whose enthusiasm defines life on campus.
  • Our alumni, whose character and accomplishments demonstrate the value of an Iona education, and who stand ready to lend a hand to their alma mater.
  • Christian Brothers, who demonstrate justice, peace and service to others.
  • Faculty and staff, who are committed to the personal growth and development of our students through a liberal arts education - one rooted in the reality of the world's challenges and blessings.

Our highly accredited programs - from the acclaimed Hagan School of Business and Mass Communications department to our Social Work and Education departments - shape academic life at Iona. But the Iona experience is more than accumulation of credits. Here, students pursue their passions, develop their faith and connect their knowledge to experiences in our shared community of New Rochelle, the great learning lab of New York City and beyond.

Like the Christian Brothers, Iona students turn their passions into meaningful work. Our alums, carrying the mark of the Iona experience - commitment to service, confident leadership, ethical decision making and skillful problem solving - launch careers at leading companies and build successful lives.

To truly know Iona you must experience it. In addition to exploring the website, I personally invite you to visit our beautiful tree-lined campus and impeccable facilities that inspire learning. And when you're here, I hope you find yourself at home.

Sincerely,

Joseph E. Nyre, PhD
President
