Karen Cerreta-Figueroa, is an Adjunct Clinical Supervisor, for the Iona College Speech and Language Hearing Clinic and is an Alumnus of the Speech Communication Studies department.

She has a varied clinical background, with 18 years of experience working in specialized lower schools serving autistic, learning disabled, and hearing impaired; school age, populations.

Her earliest work settings, include specialized; Schools for the Deaf, located in New York areas. Additional school experiences include Connecticut public elementary schools as well as special private schools, designed for the learning challenged child, whose primary diagnosis might be Autism or non-specified spectrum disorder with the accompanied social language (pragmatic) delays. Ongoing and current work includes intervention for the Birth to Three population, with Early Intervention programs, as well as home based private therapy to address articulation and oral motor development.

Her medical experience has been working in a Skills Nursing Facility specialized for Infants through Adolescents, in Manhattan, provided experience and interest in Feeding areas as well as for working with young children with limited verbal capacity. She is trained to use Sign Language and Prompt.

She has training and experience serving adult, Cerebral Vascular Accident patients. She has worked on cognitive/communication deficits through both individual and group based approaches. Currently, she continues to assist with group intervention for an Aphasic group at Iona's Speech and Language Hearing Clinic.
