About the Program
The Department of Speech Communication Studies at Iona College offers all necessary prerequisite courses in Speech-Language
Pathology needed for admission to graduate programs in the area. In most cases, students can complete necessary courses
in a year or less.
For student convenience, classes are offered at night, over January session, and during the summer sessions. We also
offer hybrid and distance learning options. Our
faculty
members are dedicated to helping you on the path to graduate school.
Students enrolling in Speech Language Pathology classes will learn all basic skills necessary for graduate work.
Although, entrance to graduate school is not guaranteed, the Prerequisite Program at Iona College is one crucial step
in the process.
Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist's are needed and the job market is wide open. According to
ASHA,
the profession is ranked among the top 30 (out of 100) fastest growing occupations over the next decade. This is an
exciting time for the discipline!
Career and Employment
There is a high demand for trained professionals in both Speech/Language Pathology and Audiology. A graduate degree
(M.A. or M.S. or doctorate) is required for certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and for
licensure in most states. The prerequisite program at Iona College will help put you on the path to your graduate school
goals.

The department also maintains excellent relationships with speech and hearing centers in Westchester County. Our students
are welcomed observers in area hospitals and clinics. In addition, Iona has an active chapter of
National
Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA).
