Teacher Certification - Grades 7 through 12
Students wishing to major in biology and receive teacher certification for grades 7-12 must complete all the requirements for the BS in biology, which include the requisite 36 credits in science, as well as 33 credits in education outlined in this bulletin.  This program will require a minimum of 144 credits.

Internship
The Department of Biological Sciences has a collaborative internship with the Osborn Laboratories of Marine Sciences of the New York Zoological Society at the New York Aquarium.  Students work with scientists from the Osborn Laboratories on research projects in such areas as fish genetics and pathology; protozoology; ecology; invertebrate zoology and behavior; and natural products chemistry.  Admission to the program requires approval of the department chair.  Academic credit is awarded.  Other internships are available subject to the approval of the department chair.


In addition, the department of Biological Sciences has a cooperative agreement with the Biology Department of Adelphi University in Garden City, Long Island, New York, wherein a number of qualified Iona graduates will have entry to the Adelphi graduate program in biology.
