Welcome to the CCSCE 2005 Conference.
On behalf of the Conference Committee, we are pleased to welcome you to Iona College for the 21st
annual CCSC Eastern region conference.
The program offers a diverse selection of sessions that should appeal to all attendees.
The parallel tracks include 18 papers, 6 panels, and 3 tutorials on a wide variety of topics.
Five workshops are scheduled before, during, and after the conference. The acceptance rate for papers was 50%. We would like to thank all those who submitted proposals for papers, posters, panels, workshops and tutorials, and encourage everyone to continue to participate actively by sending proposals to next year’s conference.
We are honored and grateful to have two distinguished speakers – Dr. Aaron Kershenbaum and Dr. Owen Astrachan. Dr. Kershenbaum will be our keynote speaker, and Dr. Astrachan will deliver the banquet address. We are confident that both of these plenary speeches will be memorable.
Student activities include a poster competition on Friday afternoon and a programming contest on Saturday morning. As in last year’s conference, high school students have been invited to compete in a separate contest, and their efforts will be recognized, along with the college entrants, at the luncheon on Saturday.
We owe a debt of gratitude to many people who have worked hard to make this conference possible. The CCSC Board and the CCSC Eastern Region Steering Committee provided expert guidance and planning for the event. The conference committee has worked hard to implement their plans, and the result is evident in the excellent program being presented. We would also like to thank those at the college who have provided support for the conference activities, especially Information Technology, Admissions Office, Facilities Management, Food Services, and Security personnel. Without their cooperation this event would not be possible. We wish to thank the dedicated reviewers whose names appear in the Proceedings. A special word of thanks goes to our sponsors - the Pepsi Bottling Group, IBM, and O’Reilly - for their support of the programming competitions and other activities. We urge you to support our vendors by visiting their booths to let them know that you value their participation.
Next year’s conference will be at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia and will be chaired by Karen Anawalt and Jennifer Polack-Wahl. Please continue to support the conference by volunteering for the committee, sending a proposal, or submitting your work.
Welcome, enjoy the conference, and be sure to take some time to sample some of the wide range of activities that New York City offers - just a short train ride or drive to our south.
