Requirements for the Post-Master’s Certificate: any 6 courses from the curriculum for a total of 18 credits.
The Certificate by itself will not lead to licensure as an MFT in New York State. Individuals who desire to “fill in “ areas where they are lacking for the License are advised to check with NYSED as to what they will require.
Admissions:
Persons holding an appropriate Master's Degree with related counseling/therapy experience are eligible to apply for admission to the Certificate Program in Marriage and Family Therapy.
The applicant seeking admission to the Certificate Program in Marriage and Family Therapy:
1. Submit a completed Graduate Arts and Science Application and complete additional requirements of the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy.
2. Submit proof of a Master's Degree including Official Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools previously attended. Student copies are not accepted.
3. Meet with the Chairperson of the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy.
4. Submit three letters of recommendation directly to the Chairperson of the Department from persons who can attest to significant professional experience and/or demonstrated potential for success in the field of counseling.
5. Submit the application fee.
Graduation Requirements:
1. Completion of the Program requirements - 18 Credits - with the appropriate distribution of courses.
2. A minimum 3.0 G.P.A.
3. Satisfactory completion of all professional and clinical criteria established by the Department.
