Dr. Cathryn Lavery, PhD |
Dr. Cathryn Lavery joined the Criminal Justice Department as a full-time faculty member in September, 2005. She received her BA from Clark University, an MS in Criminal Justice from Iona College, and her PhD from the Graduate Center/CUNY. She teaches both in the undergraduate and graduate programs.
Her research interests include campus crime, sexual assault and victimization, corrections policy, and forensic mental health issues in prisons and jails. Prior to her hire at Iona, Dr. Lavery taught at Sacred Heart University and John Jay College/CUNY. She has served as a consultant on federal grant programs and is certified in Forensic Mental Health Training and Sexual Victimization Counseling. She has been invited to speak at several agencies including: New York State Police Juvenile Officers Association, The Perinatal Conference at Western Michigan University; The Annual Conference on Maternal & Perinatal Health Sponsored by the Michigan Medical Society; and The National Conference on Sexual Assault in Our Schools. In the summer of 2012, Dr. Lavery presented at the Biennial International Criminal Justice Conference on Global Perspectives of Justice, Security & Human Rights.
Dr. Lavery is active in several national and regional organizations including: The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (memberships in Women & Minorities Section (Executive Counselor), Corrections & the new Victimology Section); American Society of Criminology, Criminal Justice Educators Association of NYS, and others. Dr. Lavery currently serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Criminal Justice Club.
