Professor Hoerter joined the Criminal Justice Department faculty as an adjunct instructor in September, 1995, teaching several courses in the graduate program. He assumed full-time teaching duties in September of 2004. He possesses a J.D. from Pace University, School of Law. He has engaged in the private practice of criminal and civil law for a number of years after his 2001 retirement from the NYPD, where he served in several different investigative and administrative positions, and, while on a leave of absence from the Police Department, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County from 1991 through 1996, during which time he argued a number of appellate cases before the New York Court of Appeals and Appellate Division, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
