Does the program lead to licensure?
MSEd program satisfies the educational requirement for professional certification and leads to initial certification as a School Building Leader (SBL)

Specific focus of the program:
To prepare candidates for administrative positions as School Building Leaders and for initial certification as an administrator.

Note: Degree cannot be earned by taking distance-learning or weekend courses only

Average courseload per term: 2 courses (three credits each)

Credits to completion: 36

Average time to complete the program: 2 years

Internship/practicum required for degree completion:
Six credits of internship regardless of previous administrative experience.

Out-of-classroom activities required:
Ten hours of leadership experience in every course leading to the internship

Required academic preparation or background experience:
Initial license in NYS, minimum undergraduate GPA, and at least three years of full-time teaching experience

Admission requirements:

  • Application for admission
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended
  • Two professional letters of recommendation
  • Minimum GPA 2.95
  • GRE examination if cumulative undergraduate GPA is below 2.95 with a minimum score of 500 verbal and 500 quantitative
  • Proof of initial teaching certification
  • Proof of three years of full-time teaching experience
