Iona College is pleased to partner with New York State United Teachers to offer graduate level courses for professional development. These courses are open only to NYSUT members; members will be asked for their NYSUT ID number prior to registration. Courses are designed for professional development only - credits earned in these courses may not be used towards an Iona degree program.

Early Childhood: EDU 502RHY - The Foundation for Educating All Young Children in Inclusive Settings (3 credits)The class schedule for these courses are as follows:
This course provides the basis for the teacher candidate to learn and shape developmentally appropriate practices with young children in early childhood settings. This course studies the processes of social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic, physical, and aesthetic growth and development in early childhood within socio-cultural context. A field experience is required (Birth to Grade 2).
Special Education: EDU 667RHY - Responsive Teaching and Multiple Interventions within Inclusive Classrooms (3 credits)
This course provides research specific to curriculum and methods for individuals with disabilities and autism spectrum disorders in grades 1 through 6. Strategies for planning, implementing and evaluating effective instructional programs and the related research will be addressed. Course requirements include a ten-hour field experience in a special education classroom, grades 1 - 6.
Middle School: EDU 753RHY - Learning Needs of the Middle School Student (3 credits)
This course will provide students with an in-depth study of adolescent development of the 10 - 14 year old child. Readings will focus on the learning needs and the learning styles of the child in middle school grades. Field experience is required.
