Degrees and Certification:
- A major in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) leading to a BS degree with a concentration of 30 credits in one of the liberal arts and sciences with an additional six (6) credits from the major requirements for a BS degree in Childhood - Dual Certification.
- An adolescence teacher certification program (7-12) in the following areas: Biology, English, Italian, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Spanish.
Admission to the program:
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of admission, which is usually the middle of the sophomore year.
- Submit the official "Request for Admissions" form, available in the department office.
- Submit three letters of recommendation.
- Provide a well-written autobiography.
- Sign "Professional Commitments Form" and receive "Professional Commitment Rubric"
- Be interviewed by a faculty member of the department.

Initial Certification:
In order to obtain initial certification, students must pass three portions of the New York State Teacher Certification Exams:
- The Liberal Arts and Science Test
- The Assessment of Teaching Skills: Written
- The Content Specialty Test
- Students must also take a SAVE Workshop, Child Abuse Seminar and be Fingerprinted.
