Degrees and Certification:
- A major in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) leading to a BS degree with a concentration of 30 credits in one of the liberal arts and sciences with an additional six (6) credits from the major requirements for a BS degree in Childhood - Dual Certification.
- An adolescence teacher certification program (7-12) in the following areas: Biology, English, Italian, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Spanish.
Admission to the program:
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of admission, which is usually the middle of the sophomore year.
- Submit the official "Request for Admissions" form, available in the department office.
- Submit three letters of recommendation.
- Provide a well-written autobiography.
- Sign "Professional Commitments Form" and receive "Professional Commitment Rubric"
- Be interviewed by a faculty member of the department.

Childhood Education and Childhood – Dual Certification
(Grades 1-6 & Birth – Grades 6)
The Childhood degree prepares teacher candidates to work with diverse student populations from Grades 1-6. Teacher candidates may also choose dual certification for teaching students at Birth - Grade 6.
Adolescence Education
(Grades 7-12)
The Adolescence program aims at preparing teacher candidates to work with diverse populations through the development of a strong professional commitment and a disposition that all students can learn.
Students must select a discipline in one of the following areas:
- BS in Adolescence Education: Biology
- BA in Adolescence Education: English
- BA in Adolescence Education: Italian
- BA in Adolescence Education: Mathematics
- BA in Adolescence Education: Social Studies
- BA in Adolescence Education: Spanish
