Undergraduate Program Plans

Degrees and Certification:

  1. A major in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) leading to a BS degree with a concentration of 30 credits in one of the liberal arts and sciences with an additional six (6) credits from the major requirements for a BS degree in Childhood - Dual Certification.
  2. An adolescence teacher certification program (7-12) in the following areas: Biology, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Spanish.

Admission to the program:

  1. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of admission, which is usually the middle of the sophomore year.
  2. Submit the official "Request for Admissions" form, available in the department office.
  3. Submit three letters of recommendation.
  4. Provide a well-written autobiography.
  5. Sign "Professional Commitments Form" and receive "Professional Commitment Rubric"
  6. Be interviewed by a faculty member of the department.

Program Plans:

The program plans indicate admission and course requirements for each specific degree. For Childhood Education, there are six concentrations. Separate program plans for Dual Certification (Early Childhood and Childhood Education) are listed. In addition, there are requirements for New York State Initial Teaching Certification.
