Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society. The Nu Omicron chapter at Iona College has been active for over 20 years. To be eligible for membership, students must be English Majors, Minors, or Education Majors concentrating in English. Student must have completed at least three upper-level English classes and have achieved at least a 3.0 in their upper-level English classes, as well as have at least a 3.0 average overall.

In addition to possessing the requisite grade point averages, individuals must be interested in promoting the mastery of written expression, encouraging worthwhile reading, and fostering a spirit of fellowship among men and women specializing in English. They must subscribe to the motto of the organization, "sincerity, truth, and design," symbolized by the Greek letters ΣΤΔ. They shall seek to express life in terms of truth and beauty and to make first-hand acquaintanceship with the chief literary masterpieces of our language.
