Degree: Master of Arts

Master of Arts in Spanish EducationThe Master of Arts in Italian is offered to students who already possess a bachelor’s degree in Italian or have other appropriate preparation. This department also provides preparation toward certification in Adolescence Education with a specialization in Italian.

Campus Location: New Rochelle, Rockland Graduate Center

Specific focus of the program: The program stimulates and challenges students to develop a broad knowledge of Italian history, literature, art, and culture. Small classes promote student participation. Class sessions are conducted in Italian.

Dante; Early Italian Literature; Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature; Twentieth-Century Literature and History; History of Italian Language; Italian Film and Theater; Italian Women Writers; tradition of the Italian “Novella”

Calendar:
Semester
Classes meet for two hours, one evening per week

Entry terms: Fall, spring, summer

Application deadline: Rolling

Average courseload per term: 2 courses (three credits each)

Credits to completion:

30 or 33 depending on culminating experience pathway

Average time to complete the degree: 2 years

Preferred academic preparation or background experience:
Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree with a major, concentration, or minor in Italian (or the equivalent) and who can demonstrate a high level of fluency in Italian; post-baccalaureate students with other strong preparation or background in Italian.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 (admission with undergrad below 3.0 by permission of the faculty)
