Requirements for Minor
A minor in German is available and must be coordinated with the department chair. In addition to the six credits for core curriculum requirements, students wishing to minor is German must complete 12 additional credits chosen from 300 level courses.

Course Description
GER 103, 104. Elementary German I, II
Gradual development of the four language skills: comprehension, speaking, reading and writing, with an early introduction to short excerpts from contemporary literary works and the German culture. Three hours of class instruction and one hour of laboratory drill per week. Credit only for students with no previous study of German. Special fee required. (3 credits per semester) GER 103 - Fall; GER 104 - Spring

GER 203. Intensive Intermediate German

Intensive review of the structure of the language intended to strengthen the student’s aural/oral comprehension and ability in written composition based on readings in modern literature. Three hours of class instruction. Prerequisite: GER 104 or equivalent. (3 credits)

GER 204. German Science Readings
The study of authentic German texts on scientific subjects. Instruction in those structures of the language which occur in scientific texts, especially in articles in professional journals; emphasis on vocabulary building and on sentence structure. Prerequisite: Ger 203 or equivalent. (3 credits)

GER 305, 306. Advanced German Composition I, II
Develops in the student the ability to write German with facility and correctness. Included are a review of grammar, presentation of stylistics, out-of-class writing of essays and translations from English into German and German into English. (3 credits per semester)

GER 307, 308. Advanced German Conversation I, II
Intensive practice in spoken German: directed conversation, oral reports and discussion of cultural and literary material read in preparation for the class. Readings from German magazines and newspapers. Prerequisite: GER 207, 208 or equivalent. 6 credits. (3 credits per semester)

GER 311. Commercial German
This course is designed to prepare the businessmen who must deal with situations in the German business world and at the social level. Extensive vocabulary building to meet everyday commercial encounters. Insight on German life and manners. Prerequisites: Knowledge of German and approval of department chair. (3 credits)

GER 312. Oral German for the Business World
Intensive conversational German designed to prepare the student for maximum oral proficiency. Specifically selected vocabulary is presented to prepare the student for business and commercial dealings in the German-speaking world. Admission by permission of the department. (3 credits)
