Degree: Master of Arts

Master of Arts in HistoryThe Master of Arts in History with a focus in Global Studies is a 36-credit degree program, offered to students who already possess a bachelor’s degree in History. Applicants without this background will be considered on an individual basis. This department also offers preparation toward certification in Adolescence Education with a specialization in Social Studies.

  • It brings students beyond an understanding of Western Europe in shaping our values and institutions to and appreciation of the ideas, values, and historical traditions of the cultures of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas
  • The program provides a solid foundation for those interested in achieving teacher certification in social studies, those working toward doctoral study, and anyone who seeks personal and intellectual growth

American Foreign Policy, Africa and Historical Geography, Middle East and Eastern Europe, Native Americans, Modern Europe, Asia, Middle Ages

Semester
Each class meets for two hours, one evening a week

Entry terms:
fall, spring, summer

Application deadline: Rolling

Credits to completion: 33-36 depending on thesis option chosen

Average course load per term: 2 courses (three credits each)

Average time to complete degree: 2.5 years

Preferred academic preparation or background experience:
Undergraduate major or minor in History or approval by the graduate coordinator

Admission requirements:

  • Application for admission
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended
  • Two professional letters of recommendation
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 (admission with undergrad below 3.0 by permission of the faculty)
