|Tony Kelso received his PhD in Culture and Communication from New York University in 2002. He also earned a BS in Theatre and Drama (’82) and an MA in Telecommunication Arts (’85) from the University of Michigan. Before coming to Iona, Tony had taught classes in communication studies at the University of Michigan, the New York Institute of Technology, and New York University. In addition, he has maintained a career in advertising for over fifteen years, working both as a producer and as a copywriter. After holding staff positions at Young & Rubicam and J. Walter Thompson, he decided to establish his own freelance business, which he has been managing for over eight years.
Tony’s research interests include advertising and religion, advertising and audience reception, the history of advertising, and the news media as instruments of propaganda. He is happily married to Tricia Capistrano. His favorite sushi is tako.
