Department of Mass Communication

Brother Smith has been a member of Iona's Mass Communication department since 1990 after 20 years of teaching at four different high schools in New York State. A New Jersey native, he has a BA in English and Master's degrees in English, Technology, Computing and Communication Arts. In 1997, he received his PhD in Media Ecology from New York University. A member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Br. Smith resides on campus with the Brothers Community. His interests include carpentry, gardening, photography, videography and just about anything involving tools and electronics. His research interests center on the effects of communication technologies on culture, particularly their influence on religious beliefs.
