Dr. Tricia Mulligan earned her Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Spanish at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Wisconsin and received her Master's degree in Political Science.
Dr. Mulligan received her PhD in Political Science from the George Washington University specializing in Comparative Politics and International Relations. Her dissertation was directed by Dr. Cynthia McClintock and focused on political party development and democratization in Latin America. Dr. Mulligan is currently the Chair of the Department of Political Science and the Director of the International Studies program. She is also the faculty moderator for the Iona Model United Nations team.
Dr. Mulligan teaches courses in International Relations; Comparative Democratization; US Foreign Policy; Politics of Development; International Law and Organizations; Human Rights, and Environmental Politics. She received the 2011 Presidential Teaching Award to develop and implement programs and initiatives to internationalize the curriculum. Most recently, she worked with Iona students in a partnership with the Cairo based Soliya Connect program, to provide a distance learning opportunity in real time for American and Middle Eastern university students.
Her current research focuses upon comparative democratization in post conflict countries with an emphasis upon the development of stable and responsive political institutions.
