Dr. Jacobson is a NY State licensed clinical psychologist with research and clinical interests in the area of self-injurious behaviors.  Her recent research and publications have focused on the epidemiology, phenomenology, classification, and treatment of self-injurious and suicidal behaviors among adolescents.  Dr. Jacobson has also conducted research addressing depression and suicidality among people with advanced illness and has specific interest in the role of spirituality in protecting against end-of-life despair.  Dr. Jacobson's teaching interests include clinical psychology, psychotherapy methods (with a focus on empirically supported treatments), research methods and statistics. 

Dr. Jacobson received her PhD in clinical psychology from Fordham University, completed a three year NIMH Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Columbia University/ NYSPI, and continues to hold a volunteer faculty position at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.  Dr. Jacobson is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy, the American Assocation of Suicidology, and the International Society for the Study of Self-Injury, and is consulting with the DSM V task force regarding the classification of self-injurious behavior in DSM.
