Dr. Asgari is an experimental social psychologist whose research concerns inter-group relations and how membership in various social groups can influence individuals' identities, self-views and beliefs about their in-groups (social groups to which they belong) as well as their beliefs about other groups. Her most recent studies focus on mechanisms by which stereotypic self-beliefs may be undermined. The outcomes of these investigations are applicable to a wide variety of social domains including those where individuals' educational or professional progress may be hindered by socio-cultural stereotypes. In collaboration with students and colleagues her current research trajectory seeks to elucidate the influence of race, gender, and social class on evaluation of academic and professional qualifications of underrepresented individuals as well as explore the relationship between self-stereotypes, emotional well-being, and deservingness. She has presented her work at numerous conferences and has published in peer-reviewed journals. Her previous professional posts include Assistant Professor, Postdoctoral Fellow, and several years of experience as a Counseling Psychologist.
Student Presentations at the American Psychological Association Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, 2008.
