Founded at Manhattan College in 1976, Theta Alpha Kappa is “the national honor society for academic studies in Religion and/or Theology, and it exists to encourage, recognize, and maintain excellence in such studies within baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate degree programs, but also within the academic profession more broadly understood” (from the Constitution). Iona College is proud to be the fifth founding chapter of the Society and as such we are named the Epsilon Chapter. There are over 140 chapters in the nation and Theta Alpha Kappa is seeking to expand into an international society.
The three Greek letters which comprise our Society’s name hold a significance:
Theta for theos or God; Alpha for anthropos or human being; and Kappa for koinonia or community.
