Departmental Information and Courses
Dr. Procario-Foley joined the faculty of the Department of Religious Studies at Iona in 1998 as an assistant professor specializing in Catholic systematic theology. She was appointed to the Br. John G. Driscoll Professorship in Jewish-Catholic Studies in May 1999.
Procario-Foley teaches Iona's core course in Religious Studies, RST 203 Introduction to the Study of Religion. Her approach encompasses emphases on the contemporary debates about naming religion and religious studies, major modern critiques of religion, the possibility of the religious and the transcendent in a modern and post-modern age as well as brief introductions to the world's living religious traditions.
Dr. Procario-Foley also teaches RST 300 Introduction to Christian Theology, RST 401 Images of Jesus throughout History, RST 402 Christian Sacramental Theology, and RST 409 "Jesus and Judaism."
Professional Interests
Dr. Procario-Foley conducted research on the christology of Flemish Dominican
theologian Edward Schillebeeckx for her dissertation. In addition to the christology and theological project of Schillebeeckx, she is interested in the various branches of systematic theology and their conversations with both pastoral practice and Christian feminism. Procario-Foley is also working in the field of Jewish-Catholic relations.
