In 2002, she was elected to the Board of Directors, New York City Chapter, National Association of Social Workers. She brings to Iona extensive practice, teaching and consulting experience. She has specialized training in the areas of family, child and individual psychotherapy and is a Certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapist. Dr. Plasse's expertise in the area of substance abuse treatment has been recognized by other organizations that seek her services to provide staff development and training and individual staff consultations regarding work with HIV/AIDS and substance abuse clients. In 1999, she received the Distinguished Service Award for her work with women substance abusers from Bayley Seton Hospital Residential Facility. Dr. Plasse has been a Visiting Assistant Professor, Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services since September 2001 where she has taught Social Welfare Policy, Analysis and Advocacy, Social Justice and Practice in Organizations, Integrative Seminar, Advanced Clinical Seminar, and Generalist Practice with Individuals, Families and Groups. She is also a member of the teaching faculty of the National Research and Development Institutes (NYS OASAS educational and certification-granting institute for CASAC professionals), The Alcoholism Council of New York, and Park East Psychological Services. In addition, she has authored a book chapter and three articles related to her work with women substance abusers.
