Carol Joseph, MSW, is a doctoral candidate in two-degree programs. She is enrolled at the Southern California University for Professional Studies, a distance-learning program in Psychology, and attends the New York University Shirley Ehrenkrantz School of Social Work Doctoral Program in Clinical Social Work. She has previously worked as a research and teaching assistant with a New York University faculty mentor in the area of child witness to domestic violence, which is the focus of her dissertation work. In her full time employment with UNICEF, Ms. Joseph has held administrative and training positions. Much of her work focuses on developing policies and procedures for personnel on the frontlines dealing with the aftermath of violence. She is also actively involved with the American Red Cross providing critical incident stress debriefing and defusing in relation to national disasters. Specifically, she worked with the Swiss Air DR 740 1998 crash, Oklahoma 5-99 tornado, Times Square Evacuation, Egypt Air 990 crash, and the World Trade Center disaster of September 11, 2001. In addition, Ms. Joseph has been in direct practice in a variety of social service settings with different client groups such as substance abusers, pregnant teens, children with HIV/AIDS, children with disabilities, and African refugees requiring resettlement. At Iona, Ms. Joseph has taught two courses - Understanding and Helping Abused Populations (SOW 330) and Human Diversity in Social Work Practice (SOW 318).
