Disabilities, early childhood, community work (permanent housing, HIV/AIDS).

Ellen Sarna, MSW, Director of Fieldwork has held a half-time position within the department since August 2000. (Please see CSWE approved waiver to Standard 4.5 following the text of Evaluative Standard 4). She brings to her position over 20 years of experience, primarily in the field of disabilities where she worked with children and their families in both educational and medical settings. In addition, Ms. Sarna supervised MSW students from Adelphi University School of Social Work. Ms. Sarna also brings an equally long history of involvement in social activism such as participating in Pro-Choice Marches in Washington, volunteering to assist in several campaigns for a United States Representative, and the Million Mom March for Gun Control in 2000. She has served as chair of the Social Action Committee in her synagogue and started a congregation wide program of community volunteering, which has included food drives and providing assistance in the resettlement of Russian Immigrant families. Currently, Ms. Sarna is a member of the Board of Directors of a community group that advocates and builds permanent housing for homeless families in Westchester County; as well as works with another group that provides meals to home bound persons living with HIV/AIDS.
