Ilene Haspel, LMSW, Director of Fieldwork, has been a member of the Department faculty since 2007. Professor Haspel came to the position with extensive experience as a social work practitioner, supervisor, program director, and college educator. She brings over 24 years of clinical practice experience, having worked in a range of settings (general medical and psychiatric facilities, YM-YWHA, college counseling and volunteer program) and with diverse client populations (children and families, teens, older adults, single parents, etc.). Her work experiences have also included administration, supervision, training, and program evaluation responsibilities.
Professor Haspel has been an adjunct lecturer in higher education for well over a decade. She has taught at Pace University, Mercy College, and run youth programs at both Columbia University and the Cornell Cooperative Extension. She brings to her full-time position a wealth of undergraduate teaching experience as evidenced in the broad range of courses she has taught (e.g., Case Management, Children & Adolescents: Theory & Practice, Families in Crisis, Group Work, Alcohol, Drugs and Behavior, Contemporary Issues: Raising Children in Troubled Times, Child Abuse in the Family, Domestic Violence, Gender Role Dynamics, Introduction to Psychology, Perspectives on Parenting, Psychology of Adolescence, and Strategies for Alcohol and Substance Abuse Providers).
In addition to a master's degree in social work from Rutgers University, Professor Haspel holds a Certificate from the New York University Management Institute for Non-Profit Organizations, taken post-graduate courses at Hunter College School of Social Work, and completed the Seminar in Field Instruction at Adelphi University Graduate School of Social Work. Professor Haspel has held the position of Director of Fieldwork at Iona since August 2007.
The Iona College Center for Social Research is a multi-disciplinary institute established by the Departments of Social Work and Sociology.
