Kathleen O'Kula, MSW, BSW, is Director of Mission Integration, Iona College and President New Century Consulting, Inc. She began her career in the mid-seventies in the field of child welfare and has led the staff of a residential unit of latency age boys in need of diagnostic evaluations, and, as part of a team guiding the agency in transition toward advanced professionalism in residential childcare services. At Catholic Charities in Buffalo, New York Ms. O'Kula worked in inner city neighborhoods and at Catholic Charities Human Resource Center in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York she helped develop family support programs that encompassed individual counseling, group work and work with the local police court. As Deputy Executive Director of St. Joseph's Children and Family Services, Ms. O'Kula worked to develop and had administrative responsibility for a number of specialized programs - foster care programs, prevention services and special services for children with HIV/AIDS and teenage mothers, among others. She also initiated a system of human resource administration, legal services, training and staff development and executive administration practices. Participative management and staff involvement at every level of program development were the results of her mission-focused approach to management. Ms. O'Kula began New Century Consulting, Inc. to offer organizational development interventions, board retreats, and proposal writing for major city contracts, agency mission integration, and executive coaching in 1998. She came to Iona College to work in Mission Integration having been identified for her unique expertise in mission-driven organizational development. She has taught in Hunter College's Post-Masters Program in Social Work Administration, developed curriculum and taught Staff Training and Development for Manhattanville College, and most recently taught the Field Instruction in Social Work II (SOW 362) at Iona College as an Adjunct Assistant Professor.
